ESL Services

Program Information & Registration

Welcome to Ridgewood Library ESL. Both Ridgewood residents and visitors are invited to participate.  Students must be 18 or older and plan to live locally for at least one year. Current enrollment is required for participation in classes, tutoring, and special events.

*Registration is required* for all ESL classes & events

Annual Program Fee: $30 for Ridgewood residents; $50 for visitors. Includes all classes and special events.

Annual Tutoring Fee: $25 for Ridgewood residents and visitors.

Program Offerings

Through this initiative returning students are paired with new students to welcome, offer advice, and help navigate ESL and American culture.

Individual Sessions
One to one meetings are generally reserved for beginner level students.

Group Sessions

  • Small Groups (Two to four students): advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced levels.
  • Conversation Groups (Four to eight students): intermediate and advanced levels.

Volunteer Tutors
Tutors work with students either individually or in groups, after participating in a five-session training program. Applicants do not need to reside in Ridgewood, have teaching experience or foreign language skills.

Tutoring Sessions
Students and tutors meet weekly from October to May for 90-minute sessions either in person or virtually.

Groups are determined based on students’ English proficiency level and availability.
