Check Outs, Renewals, Returns, and Fees

Self-Check Out With meeScan

  1. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Register using your library card.
  3. Allow the app to access your camera and location services.
    • meeScan must access your camera to scan barcodes. Access to location services is needed to validate that you are on-site in the library through geolocation.

Now you’re ready to check out books!

  1. Open the app.
  2. Tap the Start button.
  3. Tap the plus buttom to start checking out books.
  4. Scan the item’s barcode.
    • Align the barcode in teh windwo and hold still. The app will scan the barcode automatically.
    • Make sure it’s the Ridgewood Public Library barcodes and not the ISBN (978…).
  5. Repeat steps three and four for each additional item.
  6. Tap the Finish button.
  7. meeScan will email you an item list
    • You can also print your list at the Circulation Desk.

 

Borrowing Items at the Circulation Desk

To verify your borrowing privileges, present any of the following:

    • Your physical BCCLS library card.
    • Current photo ID.
    • Digital representation of your card.
    • Card number stored on loyalty card app.
    • Library app or self-checkout app.

Maximum number of items on each account is 50.

Renewing Items

Items that are eligible for renewal will be automatically renewed unless:

  • Items have outstanding requests (i.e. other patrons are waiting for a copy.)
  • Items have reached their renewal limit.
  • Borrower’s card has been blocked.

Late Fees

  • Late fees for items can be found in the chart below.
  • No charges accrue on legal holidays or on days that the library is closed.
  • Items that have not been returned before closing time on their due date are overdue.

Lost or Damaged Items

  • Must be paid at the library with cash, check, or credit card or online via your library account.
    • Non-Ridgewood items must be paid by check or through your online library account.
  • Borrowing privileges may be restricted until charges are paid.
