Welcome to the Ridgewood Public Library ESL center. If you or someone in your household would like instruction in English, please complete an enrollment form. Please browse our links below for our ESL resources.
 

"The Ridgewood Public Library welcomes adult students of all nationalities into our English as a Second Language program.  We emphasize learning to speak social English.  Depending on the student's level of English, the student may be placed in:

 * individual one-to-one instruction open to students with only a basic knowledge of English

 * small group of up to 6 students open to students who can understand and speak simple sentences in English who want to improve their speaking skills and confidence in English

 * conversation group of up to 10 students open to students who can have more involved conversations in English and who want to improve their listening comprehension and vocabulary

 * classroom instruction of up to 15 students of all levels who want to improve their listening and speaking skills as well as their confidence in English.  English In Action Classroom Instruction meets twice a week in sessions of 7 weeks beginning in October, January and March.  There is a $30/$50 fee for this class for Ridgewood/out of town residents."

Please note:
there will be no meetings when schools are in recess.

All students must come to one session to enroll.

Summer Programs

Summer ESL English Enrichment for Ridgewood Public School students entering grades 4-9  to apply speak to Jill Wright 201-670-5600 ext. 141 or email jwright@ridgewoodlibrary.org

Summer Drop-In Conversation Groups open to Ridgewood residents  Classes begin July 6 and end August 12  Classes meet once a week for six weeks in the Art Studio  Tuesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30pm  Thursday afternoons from 1:00 - 2:30pm

Become a Volunteer ESL Tutor

Help Ridgewood Residents learn and improve their English skills.  Apply now for our ESL Tutor Training at the Ridgewood Public Library. Books and materials provided.  You do not need to speak a foreign language or have teaching experience to volunteer.  You will be matched with adult learners of English from our community.  For more information please call Jill Wright or Nancy Honsinger at 201-670-5600 x 141.
